David Adams
David Adams is currently Co-Chief Investment Officer of Independent Life and serves as Vice Chair of the Investment Committee. He oversees investment functions for Independent Life and Independent Group along with CIO Don Herrema, providing hands-on management and investment guidance in accordance with requirements of stakeholders, regulators, and strategic partners. He joined Independent Group after working with insurance allocators for eight years at NEPC, LLC, where he most-recently served as Director of Insurance Solutions.
At NEPC, David was responsible for the investment strategy, portfolio construction/design, and the surveillance of clients’ balance sheet investments. He was regularly involved in capital, regulatory, FP&A, and ERM efforts and was a specialized resource for Life Insurers. From 2017 to 2023, David helped grow NEPC’s insurance vertical from ~$10B in regulated assets under advisement to more than $65B.
He holds a B.S. in Finance with emphasis on Portfolio Theory from Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.
